| Dedicated to all the people who have opened their hearts and homes and adopted girl children from China. The hardships of life in the People's Republic, and the vigourous state espousal of mandatory population controls in the 1970's and 1980's, enforced by economic sanctions and sterilizations, or by compulsory abortions (often late term) had failed to check entirely China's population growth. At the same time the policy led to agonizing social and human consequences; such as the infanticide of baby girls, the abandonment of other girl babies to orphanages in the hopes of adoption, or the use of fetal scanning technology to determine the sex of the unborn child so that unwanted female pregnancies could be terminated.
